Would You Join the KKK for Doughnuts?

What does white supremacy have to do with fried dough? Not much, unless of course you wanted to join the Krispy Kreme Klub in Hull, England.

The branch of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. in the city of Hull decided to create a calendar of events for customers and their families. What started as an innocent gesture, however, has turned into an embarrassing and racist situation that has the multi-million dollar, international company apologizing to consumers everywhere.

The schedule, seen above, included one event entitled “Krispy Kreme Klub” Wednesdays, which was innocently abbreviated to KKK Wednesdays. While a worker in England may have harmlessly committed the oversight, most any American would think immediately of the KKK– the right-wing hate group infamous for their white hoods and racial acts of violence.

A spokeswoman for Krispy Kreme apologized for “the inappropriate name of a customer promotion at one of our stores [….] All material has been withdrawn and an internal investigation is currently underway.”

Krispy Kreme clearly thought their doughnuts were superior! Find out why they started KKK Wednesdays…
