Say Goodbye to Women in Thongs

The New York Times released an interesting article recently declaring that a younger generation of women are ditching the thong and moving toward more conservative underwear (I avoid the term granny panties because I need not imagine that). As a guy, and part of this younger generation, I honestly couldn’t be happier. I’ll get to that in a second…

First, to summarize the NYT article for you, the trend of thongs is out, and a younger generation is finding full bottomed underwear to be a cool look. It may follow the trends of Birkenstocks where “ugly” is the new cool. However, more women are admitting it’s a comfort factor more than anything (and who gets to determine what’s ugly vs sexy anyway?). Women, for too long, chose underwear with someone else in mind. Looking at a pair and thinking, “will a man find these sexy?” and thinking less about how comfortable they’ll feel in them. Now the trend is shifting toward comfort, and not just sex appeal. Which, in turn, is sexy. Personally, I say good riddance to the thong, and I can guarantee many men are with me. When I think of thongs, I think trashy whale tail and cheap fabric. I think Sisqo doing cartwheels on a beach in pleather pants. It’s not sexy. This idea of thongs being sexy is one created by mainstream lingerie companies. Why not, right? Less fabric for a higher price than a normal pair of underwear. That’s a win for them. But most men don’t care. If they did care about delicate fabric and pearl thongs, why are yoga and workout pants so popular?

What’s important to a man is confidence. If I had to choose between a woman wobbling in heels and a woman in some chucks, strutting down the street, I’d choose the chucks. Same goes for any apparel. If you’re comfortable and confident in full bottom panties, then go for it, no one is stopping you. With that said, if you’re comfortable in a thong that’s your prerogative.

What we’re seeing is a younger generation that is choosing to follow what they feel and think over what mainstream companies say. It’s a great trend and we all should be catching that wave.

And now, for your listening and laughing pleasure… The Thong Song…
