As if you needed another reason to drink, new studies are revealing that the red wine can help you lose weight. You may have read a few months back on how red wine is equal to one hour of exercise, which is true, but this study shows some different results (which just helps red wine’s case even more).
The new study found that the antioxidant resveratrol, which is found in red wine, can help turn “yellow” fat into “brown” fat. Brown fat, or beige fat, helps burn off yellow fat and keeps the body’s metabolism in balance.
The study was conducted at Washington State University, where mice were fed high fat diets, half of the given resveratrol, and the other half nothing. The mice consuming the resveratrol gained 40% less weight than those who didn’t receive it. Sweet!
Of course, if you’re really concerned about your weight, drinking a pint or two of red wine probably isn’t the best idea. Resveratrol is found in a lot of other healthier foods such as blueberries, apples, and raspberries.
This is, however, one way to feel less guilty about that second glass of red wine after work.
Are you a wine drinker? How about your friends?
