The Show That Turned Holiday 2015 Into A Conflicted Psychological Rollercoaster Ride
In case you spent the holiday season holed up in a sewer somewhere avoiding all contact with human beings and threw your phone in a dumpster to alienate yourself from any interaction with the internet and popular culture, there’s this show called Making A Murderer on Netflix. And literally EVERYBODY has watched it.
The show is a documentary series of 10 episodes, the product of 10 years of work by the creators. The series follows Steven Avery and his nephew, Brendan Dassey, who were accused of the rape and murder of Teresa Halbach. Dassey confessed to the crimes on behalf of his uncle and himself, giving brutal details of how they murdered Teresa and disposed of her body.
The clinger: this is Avery’s second time involved in a high-profile case. He had previously spent 18 years wrongfully imprisoned for assault and rape. The series unfolds in a complicated trial with plenty of betrayal, deceit, sketchy testimonies, and sloppy police and legal work that begs the question, were Avery’s charges really the product of an enormous conspiracy?
Needless to say, the show has been ENORMOUSLY popular and kept the majority of Americans on the edge of their seats throughout the holiday season. The country took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the bone-chilling series, and we thought we’d just leave you with a few of the Tweets that best captured what we ALL felt while watching Making A Murderer.
