The celebrated designer showed his Spring/Summer 2015 collection in the Pavilion at Lincoln Center during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Angel Sachez said “with this collection I decided to find new ideas within the light… and found a new woman: fresh, young, relaxed… and, above all, full of life.”
Vivid yellows, pinks, blues and floral prints were all over the runway. Mint green and graphic black-and-white patterns graced the light and airy silhouettes using fabrics such as embroidered organza, chiffon and silk crepe. One color that captured my eye was the bright yellow. Yellow is a color that a lot of designers are scared to use as the primary hue of a piece because it’s not an easy color to work with. Yellow is very hard to mix and match with different skin tones and is just not as flattering as black. Angel Sanchez tactfully managed to create beautiful looks on numerous models with the notorious color that looked amazing and bright up the runway.
Sanchez played with neoprene and double faced wool in a nod to form structured jackets and dresses. He keeps true to his signature look with architectural influence and fluidity. Staple fabrics of the collection were satins and an innovative mesh knit of varying sizes. Using these fabrics, Sanchez created light and airy pieces that flowed and appeared spring/summer friendly! The piece that stood out for me the most was a strikingly light blue dress with a front slit that moved beautifully while maintaining an element of structure. It was so graceful!
The collection was amazing! The Project Runway Latin America judge gave a wonderful collection and a spectacular runway that ended with a standing ovation! Celebrity guests that attended the show included actresses, Toni Trucks of TNT’s Franklin and Bash, Edy Ganem of Lifetime’s Devious Maids and three Miss Universes, Gabriela Isler 2013, Stefania Fernandez 2009 and Dayana Mendoza 2008.
