If you’re like me, it’s hard to want to devote a chunk of your weekend to working out. Running, weight-training, and even yoga seem like tough sells when I could be sleeping in, flea market shopping, and rooftop barbecuing.
On the weekend I opt out of the workout and, instead, choose a few fun activities that get my heart racing and my legs moving without making it feel like a chore.
Here are three activities you can do this weekend that will help keep you in shape:
Go for a Bike Ride:
This is a gray way to get your day going. Take your bike to the park, to the beach, or even to brunch!
If you don’t have a bike, most cities are adopting bike-share systems. In New York it’s called Citi Bike; in Chicago, it’s called Divvy. We recommend just investing in your own bike because it’s a great way to burn some calories while going about your day.
Get in the Water:
Getting some much needed sun is great. The vitamin D is great for your body and spirit. As long as you’re at the beach, or poolside, you might as well get some physical activity out of the way. Swimming is a great form of exercise that’s low impact but highly effective.
Here’s the deal, you don’t need to be swimming miles of laps either. Even treading the water is going to raise that heart rate. If you’re at the beach, just moving with the waves can help. After all, it’s the weekend, you don’t need to overdo it!
Get Your Culture On:
In every city, there are dozens of museums you can find and enjoy. This is such a fun weekend activity that gets you on your feet and walking for several hours. Make sure to wear some comfortable shoes and a bottle of water.
Bonus: a lot of museums use elevators to transfer you between floors. Opt for the stairs to get that extra credit.
