Javier Gomez at Meskita Fall/Winter 2014

Brazilian designer Alessandra Meskita made her debut at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Alessandra grew up in a creative family in Sao Paulo. Her mother, a sculptor and painter, and grandmother always encouraged Alessandra to be in touch with artistic expression. By the age of 15 she was already drawing styles, tracing fabrics, cutting patterns and sewing clothing.

Alessandra Meskita always wanted to create more than just a clothing line. She wanted to build a lifestyle. Meskita is a brand conceived to accentuate culture, exploration and imagination. And this season’s collection expresses just that. Meskita said her pieces are meant to be worn by “women who travel the world or with a jet setter lifestyle”. Sleek ponytails complimented the looks of this seasons collection perfectly. The color pattern used was royal blues, pinks, burgundies and whites. The main fabric was neoprene creating very sleek lines. This modern and sexy collection has a place in everybody’s closet. It goes from classic to contemporary styles with edgy prints and cuts.

The inspiration for this glamorous, modern collection came from the 100-year anniversary of Beverly Hills and the work of internationally renowned photographer Javier Gomez. “Alessandra and I have been trying to collaborate for a while,” says Javier Gomez. “She loves my abstract work and I love her designs so it was an exciting creative project since we both love art and fashion.” Gomez was thrilled saying, “I’m really excited, it’s a big night!”

The Brazilian fashion designer used five of Gomez’s abstract photos which were printed in the fabric and applied to be used on several of the dresses, jackets and scarves featured on the runway. In addition to his work with Meskita, Javier Gomez is also currently at work on curating a major art exhibition in conjunction with Kane Swener and Legends 10 who owns intellectual property rights to world soccer legend Pelé, which will debut following the upcoming World Cup this summer in Brazil. “It is the most ambitious global art project I have ever worked on and a very exciting challenge,” he says. “The exhibition will highlight and feature world renowned artists such as Vik Muniz (Brazil), Lorenzo Quinn (London) among others that will create art inspired by Pelé.”

Celebrities that came to the show included: WPIX News Anchor Tamsen Fadal, Joe Zee, Dallas and Desperate Housewives star Jesse Metcalfe, Cara Santana, Miss USA Erin Bradley, Miss Teen USA Cassidy Wolf, Miss Universe Gabriela Isler and Nadeja Savcova.
