Here’s What 60 Years of True Love Looks Like
If you weren’t sobbing by the end of the 15 minute introduction to Pixar’s UP chances are you need to check your pulse to make sure you’re not dead inside. And if you’re like me, you probably had to go collect yourself in the movie theatre bathroom before sitting down to console your emotions with fist-fulls of popcorn. The point is — the couple from the film, Carl and Ellie, represent a deep level of love that we all aspire to reach, aged to perfection over the years and years they spent together and dreams they shared.
But that type of love isn’t only found in fiction – it’s found all around us…
To mark their 60th anniversary together, the 80-year-old grandparents of a celebrity YouTube pianist named Jason Lyle Black performed the theme from the film as a duet on the piano. The video imitates the opening sequence of the Disney film, and ends with Black himself (dressed as a boy scout to mimic the movie’s protagonist) introducing his adorable grandparents to the internet and wishing them a happy 60th year together.
“My grandparents were very excited to be part of this video,” writes Black about the project. “It was so fun to work with them on it. I’ve loved their piano duets ever since I was a little kid, so this will be a family treasure for all of us.”
We send our personal congratulations to the happy couple, and wish them many more years together. Try to make it through this without a few tears.
