The first time I was in London I had to go to McDonald’s. Because McDonald’s is such an American staple I needed to experience other countries’ versions of the fast food chain. Of course McDonald’s is smart and caters to each nation’s tastes. I don’t remember what I ordered, but I remember the concept of “fast food” was not applied as I was told to have a seat and wait for my food. Here’s some dishes you may not have heard of from around the world.

1. India, The Spicy Paneer Wrap

Paneer is a type of non-melty cottage cheese. “Get ready to elevate your taste quotient with the superior, sizzling Paneer Wrap. Soft and tender paneer in a fiery, crunchy batter, dressed with fresh veggies & seasonings along with creamy sauce and a dash of mustard & melted cheese to surprise your taste buds each time you sink your teeth into it,” says McDonald’s India ad.

2. Indonesia, fried chicken with spaghetti

Not quite traditional Indonesian food, but dang I want some. Especially late at night. They call the chicken “McDo”. More like McDooDoo, amiright?

3. Mexico, Desayuno Especial Mexicano

Why can’t we have this breakfast?! Refried beans and salsa!

4. Russia, Fried shrimp

Darn it, Russia! I never thought I’d be jealous of you.

5. Portugal, Sopa à Lavrador aka Peasant Soup

6. Canada, Poutine

Of course Canada includes poutine in their menu. I’ve been eating normal fries like a chump.
