Travelling can be one of the greatest pleasures in life, but getting to your destination can be one of the worst. Long lines through security, expensive airport snacks and a dying phone with no internet connection can make your time at the airport and on the plane miserable. Here are some tips to make the most out of your traveling time.

1. Bring your own snacks.

Last week I paid $9 for a terrible airport sandwich that I threw out because it was so disgusting. I should have brought nuts, granola bars and dried fruit to tide me over.

2. Bring an empty water bottle.

I always buy water at the aiport because the flights are so dehydrating. And everything at the airport is more expensive. So bring along an empty travel bottle and fill it up once you get past security.

3. Rest up at the airport.

This blew my mind: London’s Heathrow Airport offers sleeping pods where you can catch up on rest. $39 for four hours AND you can take a shower (body wash and towels are provided). If you’re traveling internationally, check to see if your airport location offers a sleeping amenity like this.

4. To the left.

Did you know that research has shown that most people are right-handed therefore tend to turn right first. So do the opposite and go left.

Up up and away!
