How and Why You Should Be Eating Chia Seeds

You have been hearing this hot buzzword for a while now but what can chia seeds actually do for you? Well, the short answer is A LOT. In fact “chia” is the Mayan word for “strength.” See, these tiny guys were used for explosive energy back in the day — which is something I am aways lacking. They contain tons of nutrients for very little calories, they are full of fiber and are easy on the digestive track. Due to the fiber count, these little guys expand in the stomach and cause you to feel fuller longer. Uh, I need this! Here are a few ways to hack them into your diet.

1. Topping

Add cereal, mix them in veggies and top it off with greek yogurt.

2. Pudding

There are loads of these recipes on Pinterest as well as most juice bars carrying pre-made chia seed puddings. They are delish. Check out my favorite Chia Seed Pudding recipe from The Minimalist Baker. It was super easy to make, quick and husband/kid approved!

3. Juice

Stir a spoon full in your morning juice. Are you a juice addict? Add these guys for a power breakfast and watch your energy soar.

4. Sauces

Due to their ability to absorb water and fat, you can use these guys to thicken sauces and even as an egg substitute in recipes.
