Justin Timberlake Break Up NSYNC Was Personal

Say What?

In the late 90s and early 2000s, every girl across the country could tell you whether she was an NSYNC or Backstreet girl and specifically which member of the boyband she was going to marry. For me, personally, it was Justin Timberlake (although I definitely could have gone without the ramen hairstyle). I wanted to be his Britney Spears but I suppose after seeing how that turned out, I don’t mind anymore. When 2002 rolled around and the band announced their hiatus, thousands of tween girl hearts broke simultaneously.

They claimed it wasn’t a break up but now we know it was just a way of letting us down easy. The band hasn’t gotten back together in fifteen long years. With their statements to the press, each of the members explicitly said that the split was cordial but JT’s latest interview with the Hollywood Reporter makes us think otherwise.

Justin explained why he ditched the group saying, “We were on a stadium tour, and I just felt like the whole thing was too big. It started as a fun snowball fight that was becoming an avalanche. And, also, I was growing out of it. I felt like I cared more about the music than some of the other people in the group. And I felt like I had other music I wanted to make and that I needed to follow my heart.”

He, of course, didn’t mention any names but we can guess to who he was referring to. The break proved to be the best thing to happen to Justin’s career so we can’t complain too much. He came out with a bang at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards, showing the world his first solo single, “Like I Love You” and went on to sell 3 million copies of his solo album Justified. Not too shabby! We wonder if Louis Tomlinson was taking notes as a second grader…
