Rapper Calls Out Systemic Racism
Recently, a Bobby Shmurda affiliate was hit with a 117-year prison sentence. The GS9 member was initially offered a 15-year plea bargain, which he refused, and now he’s looking at almost eight times that sentence.
Reformed ex-con and hip-hop veteran Remy Ma is now speaking out on the absurdity of the judge’s decision, going from 15 years to 117 years. She’s blowing the whistle on systemic racism, a subject she has plenty of experience with after completing a seven year sentence.
The Terror Squad member opened up to Fader in a candid interview and expressed her distain for the way prisons work: “You can be the wrong color, but if you have the right amount of money at the right time you might be good. If you get caught in an election year, it’s over for you. That’s kind of what happened to me.”
How did a member of Bobby Shmurda’s squad go from a 15-year sentence to 117? Rapper Remy Ma speaks out, calling it “racially motivated.”
