Want to speed up your metabolism?
I know we talk a ton about foods that will help you lose weight and exercises to help you tone up, but I thought it might be helpful to talk a tiny bit about metabolism.
Unfortunately, I’m not going to have any type of “miracle quick fix” for a sluggish metabolism, but I do have a few tricks up my sleeve that will most definitely give that inner furnace a boost. I don’t know about you but in addition to clean eating and exercise I’ll take any help I can get to achieve the health goals I want! Just by adding these four items to your normal eating/life routines you could amp up your weight loss by as much as 20%. NO JOKE! I like the sound of that…so let’s go!
4 things to help kickstart your metabolism.
That’s right…it’s not just for Christmas cookies anymore! Cinnamon is an amazing metabolism booster. In addition to aiding in stabilizing insulin levels, it is also a champ at breaking down carbohydrates! More specifically it encourages the body to dig into those carbohydrate storages for energy before it has a chance to turn it into fat. As you consume cinnamon it reacts in the body similar to cayenne pepper (hello master cleanse) and immediately speeds up the metabolism due to the simple fact the body has to work harder to break it down. Heck yes! So, when you grab your morning oatmeal don’t forget to pile on this delicious sweet spice.
2. Apple Cider Vinegar
Now, I can 100% attest to this one! I started adding ACV into my daily diet about 3 years ago. I love the brand Bragg‘s because it’s unfiltered & all natural. The biggest secret about this golden liquid is it is a natural appetite suppressant. That’s right, skip those diet pills that don’t work anyway and add 1-2 teaspoons to a glass of water and gulp down before each meal. It helps you from overeating, and will help you feel fuller longer (you’re welcome).
Also, as you incorporate ACV into your diet it will immediately increase your metabolic rate, which is the speed your body burns calories. Lastly, in regular doses it will help alkalize your body. This simply means it will keep you from becoming too acidic, which helps support consistent weight loss.
3. Cacao Nibs
NO, I’m not suggesting you run to the nearest Hershey bar, although, we all know cacao is the foundation in chocolate candy making. This incredible superfood can be found most anywhere these days, from the grocery store counter to your local smoothie shop. Cacao nibs, in their raw form, aid the body in producing digestive enzymes as well as suppress the appetite. It is also extremely high in magnesium which aids in over 300 biochemical reactions in the body. The one we are most interested in the metabolism; it’s sets it on fire! So, next time you are grabbing that post gym smoothie try adding in these chocolate flavored super heroes, and you can thank me later!
That’s right, I’m telling you to hit that snooze button one more time! Did you know that women who get 5 less hours of sleep have a 32% more likely to experience weight gain. I know right? Just think all this hard work you are doing can be completely undone because you aren’t getting those 8 hours of nightly Z’s. As you sleep your body actually “resets” itself, allowing all the cells to turn over and renew it’s functions to prepare for the next day, including your bodies internal furnace the metabolism. As you get less and less sleep the body is constantly trying to play “catch up” which results in stress. This stress produces the dreaded “cortisol” hormone which forces the body to store unwanted fat. Just by making regular sleep patterns a priority you are giving your body the time it needs to set you up for not only a speedy metabolism, but a lower number on the scale.
